It is with pleasure and pride (hopefully legitimate to a chairman) that I present this new edition of “Liuteria in Festival” 2009. It will suffice to browse through the thickly written pages of this leaflet to understand all that we have put in place for these three weeks and the level of the cultural and musical proposals that will accessorize the 12th edition of the International Stringed Instruments Competition, the special event organised for the 2009 edition of Liuteria in Festival. The competition will certainly be the central focus of this Festival and, as usual, it will provide opportunities to share knowledge, discuss and grow. We have prepared it meticulously, involving all the resources of the Cremonese violin making sector and, thanks to everybody’s contribution, we have significantly improved its regulation. We will have qualified participants coming from all over the world and Cremona will once again become a concentrated small world revolving around the violins. The prize-giving ceremony will take place in our beloved Ponchielli Theatre, the heart of the Cremonese cultural life. The highly qualified jury panel members will play the instruments selected as a challenge and a stimulus to truly identify the very best ones. We have high expectations, in terms of reputation, for the event that we have organised and for Cremona as a whole, from the concert of Maestro Brunello from the top of our city, but also the inauguration concert will be of great value and equally important and qualified is the participation of the Cremona Quartet with its distinguished guests. As usual, Mondomusica will be the focus of the Festival, both for the value of the exhibition, which we expect high, and, in particular, its cultural proposition that leverages on a rich series of high quality ancillary events. The final week will be characterised by the “carousel” of the Conservatories, which will be given the opportunity to truly experience the city, cradle of violin making, on one side, while, on the other, they will provide us with a precious gift every day with their afternoon concert. Also in relation to ancient violin making we will provide you with two new important aspects: the “former Cristiani” Stradivari cello – now Stauffer – will be extraordinarily on display at Santa Maria della Pietà and it will be accompanied by a new book entirely dedicated to it, but, above all, all music lovers will have the chance to enjoy the first result of the “Friends of Stradivari” project, which has brought from New York to Cremona Sau-Wing Lam’s collection, on display at the Museo Civico of Cremona, featuring extremely valuable instruments. An edition of “Liuteria in Festival” to fully enjoy and the city of Cremona waiting for You to be intensely lived in this period. I warmly thank all the collaborators for their invaluable commitment and special thanks also to Virginia Villa, without whom we would have never produced the contents of this leaflet.
